About African Languages Conference (AFLC)
The African Languages Conference (AFLC) is an annual event that brings together language activists, language professionals and anyone passionate about languages to promote African Indigenous Languages. Organized by Avishta Seeras of Lingua-Cultura Experience and Ady Namaran of Bolingo Consult, the conference takes place during African Languages Week. The African Languages Week was launched in July 2021 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso by the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN), a specialized institution of the African Union. According to ACALAN, the African Languages Week seeks to draw attention to the use of African languages, to support the crucial role of these languages in social integration, economic development and in sustainable peace-building in Africa. Through conversations and sharing of experiences, the African Languages Conference aims to highlight the role of African languages in shaping the continent’s development and to encourage their use in everyday life. The first edition of the African Languages Conference was held in 2022 as a platform to forge awareness and appreciation of Indigenous languages in Africa.
