A real story about real life events. This uniquely structured and beautifully presented 240 page book traces the evolution of the Australian software package industry, providing older readers with a veritable feast of nostalgia while demonstrating to younger readers that anything is possible. All Systems Go!, The First 50 Years of the Australian Software Industry, tells the story from the perspective of the pioneers who set up our first IT systems as the industry picked up pace through the 1980s on, driving efficiencies and progressively cutting costs in a never ending cycle. The author of All Systems Go!, John Neller, was at the forefront of change with his company Neller Software in Adelaide, convinced in the 1970s that computerised payroll software would be a vital tool for business. After 40 years in the software industry and now aged 80, Neller has fulfilled a long-held desire to write this fascinating story of an industry that paved the way for today’s entrepreneurs. A collaborative work, All Systems Go! includes individual contributions from over 30 industry veterans, as well as up-and-comers now carrying the baton forward. Here you’ll find the stories of TechnologyOne, LANSA, Mincom, Ultradata, Frontier Software, Prophecy International, Data#3, Mainpac and many more. “I’ve tried to represent a cross-section of industry, as it was then, and the stories come from all across the country,” Neller says. “They were able to extract enough revenue from a small and challenging market to build profitable businesses, against what at times looked like insurmountable odds.” All Systems Go! has been praised by Women in IT Global Hall of Fame member Sonja Bernhardt OAM, who says: “I’m sure thousands of people who lived through those times will experience the same heart-warming reminiscence I did.
