Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 as João Pires & Filhos, is today one of Portugal's most innovative and important wine producers. The company began in Palmela and, in the 1970s, stood out for its commitment to new viticulture and oenology techniques. In 1998, Commander José Berardo became the main shareholder, investing in vineyards, wineries and new properties, and establishing a partnership with the Lafitte Rothschild Group at Quinta do Carmo, which he would acquire in 2008. In the same year, he also took control of Aliança, a benchmark in sparkling wines, spirits and table wines. Under the motto ‘Art, Wine, Passion’, due to its seven wine tourism venues, the Bacalhôa Group combines tradition, modernity and art in several estates. With over 900 hectares of vineyards, 15,000 barrels and a capacity of 20 million litres, it continues to invest in innovation and quality, creating wines that offer unique experiences and exporting to over 60 countries.
