About BLOOMproject
The Critical Raw Materials (CRM) Act and related EU policies aim to support Europe’s green and digital goals. However, these policies highlight key challenges for the mining and processing industries, such as: - Reducing EU dependency on imported raw materials. - Improving access to raw materials while ensuring recycling and recovery of valuable materials from waste. - Making the industry more sustainable, cost-efficient, and environmentally friendly by lowering energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. BLOOM is a project funded by the European Union which is addressing these challenges by developing innovative technologies to improve how critical raw materials (CRMs) like metals and minerals are extracted and processed. The goal is to strengthen EU supply chains by: - Using smart systems for mineral analysis directly at mining sites. - Applying AI and machine learning to optimize operations, reduce costs, and make low-grade deposits profitable. - Ensuring collaboration with international partners from Ukraine, Canada, and Brazil to share knowledge and build effective strategies. BLOOM’s solutions will help make mining and processing more sustainable and efficient, supporting Europe’s transition to a greener and more competitive economy. The project involves 15 partners from multiple countries and is led by the UPC (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya).
