About Born To Shine Foundation- Kenya
Every child is born with gifts. Not every child is born with the chance to discover them. Born to Shine Foundation Kenya exists to close that gap - through sports, the arts, and the radical act of showing a child what they are capable of. Established in January 2019 and inspired by Matthew 5:16, Born to Shine Foundation Kenya works with orphaned and vulnerable children from disadvantaged backgrounds and children's homes across Nairobi. We create structured, safe environments where children step outside their everyday circumstances and discover hidden talents and abilities they did not know they possessed. Our programmes span a wide range of sports and creative disciplines - football, tennis, golf, swimming, basketball, skating, chess, rock climbing and music - chosen not for recreation alone, but for what each activity builds: self-esteem, confidence, discipline, resilience, and a belief in one's own potential. We have seen children arrive withdrawn and leave with a sense of purpose. That transformation is the work. Beyond programmes, we believe education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. Through our academic sponsorship initiative, Born to Shine Foundation provides 100% academic scholarships to a select number of children, enabling them to attend Diamond Junior School - one of Kenya's leading institutions for holistic, child-centred learning. What we do is more than extracurricular enrichment. It is about reframing the story a child believes about themselves - proving that what they lack is not capability, but access. By equipping children with skills, experiences, and the unwavering belief that they matter, we are not just changing individual lives. We are changing the future of entire communities.
