About Cash for Conservation
Cash for Conservation is a network of experts and advocates working at 'the intersection of cash, conservation and, ultimately, climate stability. Our purpose is to advance the use of unconditional cash in conservation and nature programming through collaborative research, policy development, project implementation, and advocacy. We aim to achieve a world where cash transfers are acknowledged as a cornerstone of conservation and nature programs. We advocate for a bottom-up approach, informed and led by the needs of communities, enabling money to flow directly to those who need it most. We strive for a robust evidence base on conservation outcomes impacted by cash, widespread infrastructure for direct transfers, and stronger ownership of these models by national governments. Our collective goals include implementing pilots in various contexts, testing sustainable financing models, and integrating unconditional cash transfers into the mainstream discourse of climate and development financing. The network was founded by Cool Earth, Equal Right, Give Directly, and Professor Rob Fletcher in October 2024, and has global membership of over 40 organisations and individuals committed to cash for conservation.
