ChalChitra Abhiyaan (CCA), a film and media collective in rural North India called ChalChitra Abhiyaan(CCA) to spearhead a progressive cultural movement that is led by people from marginalized communities, and powered by the voice of the grassroots. CCA is based in the township of Kandhla, in Shamli, in Western Uttar Pradesh (UP). Its operations span five districts of West UP - Meerut, Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar and Baghpat. Though relatively prosperous and industrialized because of its large sugarcane economy, the area has one of the lowest sex ratios and literacy rates in India. It is also home to a large Muslim and landless Dalit population. Over ten years, CCA has been creating a groundswell of grassroots storytellers, news reporters, and media makers from among the youth, farmers, women, and resource-poor families of the region that hail from Dalit and religious minority communities. They go through rigorous training by world-class journalists and filmmakers to tell their own stories, in their voices through video.
