About East Africa Philanthropy Network-EAPN
The East Africa Philanthropy Network (EAPN), formerly known as the East Africa Association of Grantmakers (EAAG), is a voluntary membership association bringing together philanthropic organizations in the East Africa region (currently Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia) to promote local philanthropy. EAPN draws its membership from charitable Family Trusts, Community Foundations, Corporate Foundations, and other types of grantmaking and non-grantmaking organizations interested in advancing philanthropy in the region. Motivated to nurture vibrant philanthropy that contributes to sustainable communities, EAPN's mission responds to the critical challenges of our time, for instance, the growing need for data-driven decision-making, the shrinking of civic spaces, and the transformation of funding architectures. Our threefold objective encompasses firstly, the endeavor to influence the philanthropic ecosystem in East Africa through rigorous research and learning. This encompasses conducting seminal research on pivotal issues within the sector, providing leadership insights uniquely tailored to the East African context, and fervently advocating for legal and policy frameworks that nurture the philanthropic landscape. Secondly, the enhancement of philanthropic practices through deepened member engagement and the forging of multi-sectoral alliances. We actualize this objective through the establishment of communities of practice within the ever-evolving philanthropy sector, the creation of a comprehensive knowledge management system, and the promotion of strategic collaborations, networks, and partnerships. Thirdly, to bolster the organizational capabilities of EAPN and its member institutions, enabling them to effectively fulfil their philanthropic roles and generate lasting benefits for the communities they serve.
