About Ekjut India
In 2002, Dr.Prasanta and Dr. Nirmala along with like-minded professionals founded EKJUT. Ekjut means ‘together’ in multiple Indian languages. Ekjut is a not for profit voluntary organization in India that works on the themes of SURVIVE, THRIVE, TRANSFORM We partner with communities that are predominantly rural and deprived residing in some of the remote districts and locations. Ekjut has established itself as a credible development organization that has assisted in empowering some of the most marginalized communities to take control of their health. Every month, there are more than 100,000 women meeting to discuss maternal, newborn, child health, nutrition, mental health issues as facilitated by Ekjut trained facilitators. Partnerships with government, leading academic institutions, philanthropies and networks have given us the opportunity to grow and develop as an organization. Our Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) approach is a community capacity building process in which women’s group members invite non- group members – adolescent girls, pregnant women, mothers, men, frontline service providers for learning, planning, carrying out and evaluating activities in a participatory and sustained basis. Trained Facilitators enable this community process. This unique approach to address issues of health and nutrition is not top down and helps communities to enhance their critical thinking. The approach consists of a four phased cycle of identifying and prioritizing problems, designing strategies to combat problems, implementing strategies together and evaluating the strategies after implementation. Currently we are working in 10 States,92 Districts and 115787 + Villages,reaching more than 6 Million population across India.
