About Fair Tech Policy Lab

Fair Tech Policy Lab is an international think tank confronting algorithmic bias through policy research, advocacy, and public engagement. Algorithms are entrenched in our everyday lives and quietly make decisions on our behalf—in the workplace, in insurance, in loan applications, in medical care, in university admissions, in security, and in many other areas. These decisions shape our opportunities, freedoms, and even our sense of identity, often without us realising it. However, many of these systems produce biased outcomes due to the use of biased historical datasets, the lack of diversity within development teams, or the absence of intentional design to calibrate them for equity. Algorithms can be biased against people based on race, gender, age, background, or any intersectional identity. They can silence voices, block content, or deny opportunities without explanation or even visibility. This is algorithmic violence. Through our research initiatives, we produce accessible, evidence-based policy recommendations to ensure that this type of violence does not go unregulated. Our advocacy and outreach connect diverse stakeholders—academia, industry, civil society, and government—to drive tangible reform. We also run public programmes, including competitions, expert interviews, and youth-led dialogues, to make technology governance inclusive and participatory.
