What does Flood Ready London do?

Flood Ready London is a partnership of the six main organisations who manage or respond to flooding in London, or represent those who do, with support from the Thames Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (TRFCC).

Flood Ready London aims to find the best, most practical, cost-effective ways to help everyone in London, from business owner to basement renter, become flood ready.

The organisations first came together in 2022 in response to extensive flooding in July 2021 which had resulted in damage and disruption across the Underground, schools, hospitals and to people’s homes and businesses causing an estimated insurance loss of at least £281 million.

Flood Ready London has now published the first London Surface Water Strategy, developed through a series of consultations with London Boroughs, environment and development managers, the public and many others associated with surface water management.

One of the key actions is the set-up of ten Surface Water Catchment Partnerships to build on existing regional collaborations by pooling resources, sharing knowledge, and standardising processes to overcome traditional political and organisational barriers. Participating organisations will work together to plan, develop, and implement solutions, whether through new or existing relationships.

Flood Ready London is made up of Environment Agency, London Councils, London Fire Brigade, Mayor of London, Transport for London and Thames Water supported by TRFCC.
