About hobocon
Hobocon is an experimental technology and information security conference that takes place aboard a train. Organized by SecKC, a Kansas City–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Hobocon brings together hackers, engineers, security professionals, and curious technologists for a shared journey built around talks, conversations, and community. Instead of hotel ballrooms and convention centers, Hobocon uses movement itself as the venue. Attendees travel together, participate in short technical talks and informal sessions during the ride, connect through the hallway track that never really ends, and continue conversations along the way. The result is a conference experience that’s social, engaging, and intentionally different—while still being professionally run and respectful of the space and the people involved. Hobocon is currently in the planning phase for its next event, with routes, dates, and capacity still being finalized. We’re exploring a summer timeframe and working closely with rail partners to make the experience both memorable and operationally sound. This is not a gimmick or a party train. It’s a real conference with an unconventional format—designed for adults, built by the community, and focused on learning, connection, and shared experience.
