About Homerides AI
Homerides AI is the first custom LLM that can take any general textual input (e.g. the entire Percy Jackson series) and compose it into accurate dactylic hexameter verse in Homeric Greek, authentic to the language, grammar and syntax of the Iliad and Odyssey. General-purpose Large Language Models typically perform poorly at highly specialised language tasks due to insufficient pre-training and fine tuning on limited, domain-specific datasets. One such fringe use case is dialect-specific Ancient Greek scansion and composition, with outputs being highly inaccurate and hallucinatory due to scant training data. We were able to fine-tune several base models with reasoning pathways to consistently output accurate scansion, a task previously only feasible with complex computational models like Finite State Machines and Supervised Neural Models. Following this, we broke down the general process of Homeric composition into four parts: 1) a fine-tuned linguistic model that parses a given English prose sentence into grammatical and semantic word-chunks, 2) an agentic workflow that selects and processes several inflected Greek forms for each chunk from a custom labelled Homeric n-gram database sorted by frequency, 3) a fine-tuned generative model that outputs several line possibilities from the previous word-chunk inputs, and 4) a fine-tuned critical model that scans each possibility and selects or re-processes the target line. Homerides AI demonstrates enormous applications in the assembly and fine-tuning of domain-specific reasoning models with limited training datasets, not just in language tasks but in all practical fields where training data is rare or proprietary. At the very least, anyone can now input their favourite literature and compose authentic Homeric Greek hexameter at the touch of a button - a task that would have previously taken years, performed now in minutes.
