About KiwiHarvest
At KiwiHarvest we believe that every New Zealander, especially our most vulnerable children and families, should have access to fresh, nutritious food. New Zealand produces enough food to feed 40 million people, yet 21% of kiwi children live in households struggling with insecurity. At the same time an estimated 30% of food produced globally goes to waste. In New Zealand the amount of good food going to waste each year, is enough to feed Wellington and Lower Hutt for a year. Every weekday, the team at KiwiHarvest rescues around 15 tonnes of this good surplus food from over 370 food businesses, including supermarkets, wholesalers, producers and others, this food could be oversupply, damaged packaging, cancelled orders, mislabelling, or the food is nearing its best before date or end of life. This food is then provided free to over 235 charitable agencies and community groups, including women’s refuges, mental health and addiction support, social housing, education programs, churches and marae, employment assistance and youth support.
