About Living Ports
LIVING PORTS aims to transform maritime construction best practices (ROM) with a proven solution for structurally-sound, ecological port infrastructure. LIVING PORTS is a collaboration of four partners led by ECOncrete® to showcase an industry level ecological alternative to traditional concrete infrastructure. The project is funded by the European Commission Horizon 2020 Fast Track to Innovation program. The installation will span two sites at the port of Vigo, and includes ECOncrete’s concrete technology in a 330m² sea wall, 100 coastal armor units and five bio-enhanced moorings. The Port of Vigo provides the home of the project and on site support. Cardama Shipyards will create a first of its kind viewing deck to showcase the technology to the public. The Technical University of Denmark will conduct a biological review of the process. LIVING PORTS serves as a showcase for new technologies and new strategies for more ecologically sustainable ports. Monitoring reports by the Technical University of Denmark will publicize benefits and gains for future adaptation in ports around the world.
