MPK perustettiin vuonna 1993 valtakunnalliseksi koulutusorganisaatioksi, joka kouluttaa kansalaisia selviytymään paremmin arjen vaaratilanteissa ja poikkeusoloissa. MPK toimii koulutuksen yhteistyöorganisaationa vapaaehtoisen maanpuolustuksen kentällä. Vuonna 2008 MPK sai julkisoikeudellisen aseman, ja sen tehtävät määritellään laissa vapaaehtoisesta maanpuolustuksesta. MPK:n toimintaa ohjaa ja valvoo puolustusministeriö. The National Defence Training Association of Finland, (MPK) established in 1993, is a national training organisation, which trains and educates citizens to be prepared for and to survive dangerous situations in everyday life and under exceptional conditions. With this training, we improve and support the readiness of the Finnish Defence Forces and other authorities under normal and exceptional conditions. We work closely together with other volunteer organisations doing security training, educational and informational work. The MPK has been regulated by the Act on Voluntary National Defence since 2008 and is supervised by the Finnish Ministry of Defence.
