About Madison County Mental Health Board
The Madison County Mental Health Board is a mental health authority of county government. The Mental Health Board operates under the provisions of H.B. 708, Illinois Revised statutes, also known as the Community Mental Health Act. Through the Community Mental Health Act, the Mental Health Board is empowered to develop and coordinate a local system of care addressing the needs of Madison County residents living with mental illness, substance use disorder, and intellectual and/or developmental disability. The Madison County Mental Health Board was created by a referendum approved by the voters of Madison County in 1966. Through the passage of this referendum, a property tax levy was established to support the Madison County Mental Health Board in carrying out the mandates and duties of the Community Mental Health Act.
