About Moriarty Foundation
Moriarty Foundation is an Indigenous children’s charity established in 2012 by Yanyuwa man John Moriarty AM and Ros Moriarty. We are an Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation (ACCO) and a full member of SNIACC. Our programs are closing gaps in education, wellbeing, health and employment so Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children thrive. Our locally-led programs: Indi Kindi: an early years education program for under 5s and their families that integrates culture, education, health, wellbeing and development to give them the best start in life. Since it was established in Borroloola in 2012, the proportion of developmentally vulnerable children dropped from 75% to 42%. John Moriarty Football (JMF): an award-winning program that harnesses the power of football to positively engage Indigenous children and youth aged 2 to 18 years of age. JMF supports increased school attendance and engagement, with students attending 1-2 additional days of school each week as a result of JMF. Our outcomes: - Prepare children to be school ready and motivate them to stay engaged with their education. - Support children and youth to be strong in family, community and culture for their wellbeing. - Create safe spaces that engage vulnerable young people with positive role models. - Provide a foundation for better life expectancy outcomes by positively influencing children’s physical activity levels, health literacy and nutrition. - Create life-changing opportunities so children and youth can determine their own futures. - Build pathways to higher and vocational education and the workforce. Every year Moriarty Foundation reaches over 3,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in 15 public schools in 16 remote and regional communities across NT, Qld and NSW. We are an affiliate of leading Australian Aboriginal-owned strategy and design company, Balarinji. Moriarty Foundation is a 100% Deductible Gift Recipient, Public Benevolent Institution.
