About Nadia's Initiative
Nadia's Initiative is a survivor-led organization translating lived experience into lasting systems change, ensuring survivors of conflict-related sexual violence hold real power in shaping justice and recovery. Our work runs on two tracks. In Sinjar, Iraq, the Yazidi homeland devastated by ISIS, we have spent nearly a decade rebuilding alongside survivors: restoring healthcare, education, water access, livelihoods, and cultural life through survivor-designed, community-owned institutions. Sinjar is our proving ground, demonstrating that survivor-led, locally-owned recovery is more effective and more durable. In parallel, we work at the highest levels of international policy and accountability. Our advocacy helped pass UN Security Council Resolutions 2379 and 2467, secured landmark ISIS convictions through universal jurisdiction, and informed reparations frameworks in Iraq and Ukraine — survivor knowledge embedded into systems, built to last. The Murad Code informs how investigators document survivor testimony worldwide. The two tracks reinforce each other: community-driven recovery generates the evidence that makes global advocacy credible; global frameworks accelerate local recovery. Together, they show what it looks like when survivors lead at every level. We are evolving into a global platform for survivor-led change — and we are looking for partners who want to help build it.
