About OVO Theatre
Award winning theatre production company based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. OVO was founded in 2003, and has staged well over 100 productions. OVO creates bold, imaginative and surprising new versions of classic plays and stories. OVO also created and produces the annual Roman Theatre Open Air Festival (established in 2014), which welcomes over 15,000 visitors each Summer. The Roman Theatre of St Albans was built in the year 140AD as part of the Roman city of Verulamium. It is believed to be the oldest theatre in the country that is still producing theatre today. OVO has received numerous awards and critical acclaim. Its production of 'As You Like It' won the 2016 Minack Trophy and was named by 'The Guardian' as one of the best shows of 2019. In 2021, OVO's Founder and Artistic Director, Adam Nichols, was named in 'The Stage 100', the definitive guide to the most influential figures working in the UK theatre and performing arts industry. - 'The Times' top seven UK boutique theatres in 2024. - 'The Telegraph' one of Britain’s greatest surviving outdoor theatres in 2024.
