About Palos Verdes Institute of Technology
Welcome to Palos Verdes High School's own Institute of Technology, a signature program that has seen our students successfully pursue post-secondary careers in STEM and earn acceptances in many prestigious colleges. Join us to get updated on all things PVIT, but beyond our students/teachers/mentors weekly meetings, we will cover many science-related activities, competitions and opportunities involving PVHS and the wider Peninsula school district. PVIT featured as one of the first high school robotics programs in the nation, competing as the only high school against top universities in the 2005 DARPA “Grand Challenge”. The PVIT program has continually grown to offer engineering coursework, competitions, internships, mentoring, and research to students with the help of industry mentors and our dedicated PVHS teachers. PVIT follows the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum to offer a flexible sequence of courses that builds and expands our students' skills in engineering and technology. Through PVIT’s Engineering advanced projects, students work in teams building underwater robots, rockets, high altitude balloons, autonomous robots, an electric car and more. Our PV teams have competed regionally, nationally, and internationally and on many occasions placed in high pressure competitions involving designing and building very technical custom hardware. The sheer nature of PVIT exposes students to real engineering problems that empower them to learn and grow real engineering skills. PVHS has linked math/science classes with PLTW courses recognized by the University of California and California State University to meet the “g” subject requirement. PVIT stands out among other high school engineering programs in that we are student-centered and deeply grateful for an abundance of highly qualified industry professionals who truly commit and volunteer to help run this valuable program.
