The Pitkin Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) is a nonprofit community-based organization serving businesses on Pitkin Avenue between Howard Avenue and Mother Gaston Blvd and Rockaway Avenue between Glenmore and Belmont Avenues in Brownsville, Brooklyn. The BID delivers services to our business and property owners and has a meaningful impact on the Brownsville community through quality of life initiatives. Our small business services include: Sanitation We provide daily supplemental sidewalk cleaning as well as monthly graffiti removal services to assist businesses in maintaining a clean appearance along the Pitkin and Rockaway Avenue corridors. Our clean team works seven days a week to keep our sidewalks and streets clean. Marketing and Placemaking We promote the district through various seasonal parades and events, giveaways, and advertising. During the winter we install holiday lighting to brighten up the corridor and draw residents, workers and shoppers to our businesses. Beautification To maintain and enhance economic activity on Pitkin Avenue, the BID has designed and executed multiple initiatives to beautify the district. These include mural installations through the Transform/Restore: Brownsville Project and storefront improvements through the Pitkin Avenue Renaissance Program. Retail Attraction and Retention The BID works to recruit and retain quality businesses in the district through collecting and distributing market data, providing supplemental marketing for vacant retail spaces and through business assistance workshops.
