As the only international organization of its kind officially recognized for sociologists, our core mission is to provide a global structure for scholarly disquisition and collaborative research. We do not endorse a single, narrow definition of mental health and illness. Instead, we embrace the full spectrum—ranging from the study of serious psychiatric and substance use disorders to the exploration of subjective feelings of well-being. Our Scope of Research Our members' research and teaching interests are diverse, covering all social and cultural aspects of mental health.
