About Rutland Square Spirits Ltd
Rutland Square Spirits – Scottish Spirit. Indian Soul. Rutland Square Spirits was born in Edinburgh, a city with centuries of distilling heritage, but our inspiration stretches far beyond Scotland. We create Chai Spiced Scottish Spirits — bringing together the craft of Scottish distillation with the warmth, depth and complexity of Indian spice. Our portfolio includes the world’s first Chai Spiced Scottish Gin and Chai Spiced Scottish Rum, a meeting of two cultures in a single glass. But our story begins long before the brand. In 1940, in Dibrugarh in Assam, India, our founder’s great-grandfather Tej Ram began experimenting with blending spirits. At the time, British officers stationed in Assam would bring Scotch whisky with them. Tej Ram would purchase single malts from the officers and blend them with locally produced whisky, obsessively experimenting with flavour, aroma and balance. His aim was simple: to create spirits adapted to the subtle and complex Indian palate. Over time, his craft developed a loyal following. But when Britain left India and licensing laws changed, the family enterprise was forced to close its doors. Rutland Square Spirits exists to revive that legacy. Today, from our home in Edinburgh, we continue that journey — combining Scottish distilling expertise with the rich heritage of Indian flavour to create something truly distinctive.
