SCRAPBUDDY is an innovative tech platform that aims to improve the traditional unorganized kabadiwala system. Here's a bitter fact: "India generates 62 million tonnes of municipal solid waste (MSW) annually. Out of the 43 million tonnes of MSW collected, about 31 million tonnes end up in landfills while only 12 million tonnes undergo treatment." But why does almost 75% of collected waste end up in landfills? The answer is simple — We're failing to segregate waste at ground level. But the story doesn't end here. According to Bloomberg, Indian landfills comprise 60% organic waste. This organic waste, in landfills, undergoes anaerobic reaction and produces Methane gas (CH4), which is the second largest Greenhouse Gas and 25 times more potent than Carbon dioxide (CO2). On March 22, 2022, the Ghazipur dump leaked an estimated 2.17 metric tonnes of methane in an hour. Scary, isn't it? To fight this mounting garbage problem, you need a capable buddy.
