About SDSU Mechatronics

The Mechatronics Club is a student organization at San Diego State University (SDSU). Our goal is to develop an environment for students at SDSU to gain valuable hands-on experience by providing team based robotics project opportunities. Our primary focus is RoboSub, where we design and build an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) to compete in the ONR and AUVSI Foundation’s International RoboSub Competition. This flagship project challenges students in mechanical, electrical, computer and software engineering, making it ideal for intermediate to advanced students. We also participate in MicroMouse, a competition that involves designing and programming a small autonomous robot to navigate a maze. This project strengthens problem-solving, electronics, and coding skills while providing an accessible entry point for students interested in robotics. Together, these projects create a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment that prepares students for future careers in engineering and robotics. The term mechatronics comes from the combination of mechanical and electronics, and reflects the integration of mechanical, electrical, computer, and software engineering that defines our work.
