About Sohar Power Company SAOG
Powering the Future of Oman: A Revival Story Established in 2005, Sohar Power Company began its journey as an independent power and water producer serving the Al Batinah region of Oman. For over 15 years, we delivered reliable power and water under our initial contract, which concluded in May 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic threw unprecedented challenges to all the Company’s stakeholders. Despite our best efforts at being relevant for the market, with no contract extension and outstanding financial obligations, we faced the difficult decision to file for bankruptcy in 2023. Yet, this was not the end of our story. A committed core team kept the plant preserved and operationally ready, anticipating future needs. That foresight paid off: in early 2024, responding to Nama PWP’s request, Sohar Power Company signed a 9-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply electricity from our gas turbines in open-cycle mode. This achievement reflects resilience, strategic vision, and unwavering dedication to Oman’s energy security. We are proud to continue serving the nation and contributing to its sustainable growth.
