About Sophie's Legacy
Sophie was an extraordinary Vet who died by suicide at the age of 33. To honour Sophie, her family has established Sophie's Legacy with the goal to reduce the rate of suicide within the vet profession and improve their working conditions. There is evidence that the veterinary industry is in a mental health crisis. In the past 30 years the risk of suicide in veterinary professionals has been reported to have steadily increased. A report published in 2008 reports that veterinarians are four times more likely to die by suicide than the general population. Sophie was one of these statistics. We want to reverse this trend.
