North Tees and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trusts are now part of the Tees Valley Research Alliance (TVRA). This strategic and operational alliance combines the research and development departments from both acute trusts into one overarching department, which operates across both trusts. The alliance creates an efficient research set up and delivery service, with the aim of sharing information on studies. This means that all patients across Tees Valley are offered the same opportunities to take part in cutting edge clinical trials. Within the TVRA have many of our own staff who are chief investigators designing and delivering research sponsored by us to answer key questions for our patients. The alliance also currently houses two Academic Research Units: ACeS and ACU. The Academic Centre for Surgery (ACeS) which is a centre for collaborative surgical research and academic excellence, optimising outcomes through evidence-based patient care. The Academic Cardiovascular Unit (ACU) is Driving a culture of excellence and improved outcomes through cardio based research. In 2022/23 we ran research trials in the following clinical areas: Anaesthetics, perioperative, medicine and pain, cancer, cardiovascular disease, childrens (paediatrics and neonates), dementia and neurodegenerative disorders, dermatology, diabetes, ENT, gastroenterology, genetics, health services research, hepatology, infection, musculoskeletal disorders, neurological disorders, ophthalmology, renal disorders, reproductive health, stroke, surgery, trauma and orthopaedics.
