The Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) is an award-winning statewide public retirement system that provides retirement, disability, and death benefits to more than 260,000 employees, retirees, and their beneficiaries of more than 940 participating Texas cities. TMRS staff is passionate about providing Texas public servants, who have contributed so much to their communities and improved the lives of so many, with a secure lifetime monthly retirement benefit. In 2023, Governor Abbott expressed it well in his recognition of TMRS’ 75th anniversary: "A secure retirement is the just reward for a lifetime of honest work, and this system has - for three quarters of a century – ensured that our public servants can attain financial security…TMRS has withstood every test…although much has changed in the past seventy-five years, TMRS’ dedication to municipal employees has not."
