Held in conjunction with International Women’s Day (March 8th) and Mother’s Day, this prestigious event celebrates the achievements of phenomenal women of colour across the UK and beyond. The Power Of A Woman Awards was created to address the ongoing lack of recognition and equality for women of colour, honouring their accomplishments across literature, industry, education, sport, commerce, and entertainment. Our mission is clear: to create a powerful platform where female talent—both in the UK and internationally—can gain visibility, unlock new opportunities, and have their voices amplified. At its core, this is more than an awards ceremony—it is a movement. A movement dedicated to breaking barriers, challenging norms, and celebrating women of colour who are trailblazers, innovators, and change-makers. Women who lead with passion, perseverance, and purpose. POAWA proudly recognises and elevates these outstanding individuals, ensuring they receive the mainstream visibility and recognition they truly deserve. Founded by award-winning filmmaker, actor, and mentor Frederick Nwaka, the awards were inspired by his late mother, Angela Nwaka, whose legacy continues to drive this powerful vision forward. Frederick remains committed to creating space for women of colour to shine, be celebrated, and reach their fullest potential.
