About The Writers Lab
The Writers Lab was founded in 2015 to ignite the power of women and nonbinary screenwriters over 40 and activate the media industry to broaden the range of storytelling across visual platforms. Our first year we offered a single script competition and retreat—solely for women screenwriters 40+ in the US and accepting only feature scripts—and received an incredible 3,500 submissions. We were on to something. Twelve years later we now offer labs, retreats, ongoing mentorship and programming in the US, UK, Europe, and Canada, as well as virtual programming for Australian, South Asian and Nigerian writers. Through the craft, career and community support provided by TWL, alumnae have gained representation; optioned their scripts; attached talent, directors, and producers; built creative and professional partnerships; been hired for writing and teaching jobs; won countless awards and accolades; and founded independent filmmaking organizations. Our international community has generated writing groups and career support networks. Our intention is to reach even farther and empower the tens of thousands of marginalized women storytellers globally by drawing attention to their unique and powerful stories.
