Torus is a youth-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in West Windsor, New Jersey, making composting free, easy, and accessible for households, schools, local businesses, and communities that face cost or infrastructure barriers. Founded in late 2023 by high school students, Torus was created to address one of the most overlooked climate challenges: food waste. Through free composting services, community outreach, and locally grounded environmental education, Torus helps residents turn everyday habits into measurable climate action. As of May 2026, Torus has served more than 1,000 households and local businesses across 19+ cities, diverted more than 300,000 pounds of food waste, and prevented an estimated 1.14 million pounds of CO2-equivalent emissions. Our work is simple: remove the barriers to composting, expand access to practical climate solutions, and build a more sustainable future led by the next generation of civic and environmental leaders.
