About Universitatea „Petre Andrei” din Iași
In 1990, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of philosopher, sociologist, jurist, and cultural figure Petre Andrei, a posthumous member of the Romanian Academy, a group of university professors, led by Petru P. Andrei, the scholar's son, founded the Petre Andrei Academic Foundation (FAPA), a non-governmental, apolitical, and non-profit organization. Within FAPA, during the 1990-1991 academic year, the University of the Petre Andrei Academic Foundation (UFAPA) was established. It was later renamed Petre Andrei University (UPA) and initially comprised three faculties: Law, Economics, and Psychology. In 1998, the Faculty of Political Science was also established. After completing all stages of provisional authorization and accreditation, and with the assets provided by FAPA, Petre Andrei University of Iași was officially established by Law 408/2002 as a private higher education institution of public utility, part of the national education system.
