About Winterleap

We are building Winterleap to help farmers produce more food on less land by addressing one of the largest inefficiencies in agriculture today, where 20% - 40% of global crop production is lost to weeds and pests every year. We do two things fundamentally differently: First, we target the root cause. Using microwaves on frozen soil, we neutralize weed seed banks, deep root systems, and soil-borne pests before they emerge, instead of treating symptoms during the season. All while preserving beneficial soil life. Second, we move treatment to winter. This opens a completely new treatment window outside the growing season, when fields are accessible, labor force is available, there's no risk for soil compaction, and biology is dormant, enabling more effective and less disruptive intervention. Together, this creates a scalable alternative to chemical spraying and tillage. It reduces the need for in-season field operations, lowers input costs, and increases farmers' margins This enables a shift from reactive, input-intensive control to preventive, system-level intervention. This is critical not only for productivity, but also for climate and soil health. Tillage is a major driver of soil carbon loss, while chemical inputs put increasing pressure on soil ecosystems and biodiversity. By replacing multiple in-season interventions with a single, targeted winter treatment, Winterleap reduces emissions, preserves soil carbon, and supports healthier, more resilient soils. We are a spin-out from a Norwegian agtech company. We have de-risked the technology through three winters of on-farm field validation and prototype trials in close collaboration with farmers and academic partners across Norway, covering diverse crop types, soil types, and operating conditions. We have demonstrated reliable technical performance in frozen conditions and strong efficacy against targeted weeds and soil-borne pests.
