About WI Space Race
WI Space Race is the University of Wisconsin-Madison's amateur rocketry team involving designing, manufacturing, and testing of liquid propellant rockets. We are excited to be building a single stage liquid-powered rocket that will reach space. Our goal is to build a single stage liquid-powered rocket that will reach space. We plan to compete in competitions such as the Dollar per Foot Competition. Designing and building, from the ground up, a 25-foot-long, 1.5-foot diameter rocket will enable us to complete our 100-kilometer altitude goal. Propelled by Starfire, a 5000 pounds-force thrust engine, we will achieve the delivery of 20 kilograms of payload to space. Furthermore, successful recovery facilitates the rocket's fully reusable nature. Failure is not an option. Wisconsin's has a rich history of making massive contributions to American spaceflight. We plan to propel Wisconsin onto the mainstream of today's new-space industry by winning the competition and deploying the winnings to strategically invigorate a space-startup ecosystem in Madison, WI. Aerospace is hard, and classroom theory needs complimentary, hands-on engineering design and fabrication experience. High-stakes, hard engineering problems have proven time and time again to be the best way to ensure engineers have the skills they need to make meaningful contributions after graduation. These projects provide an essential forum to guide and inspire a passion for building innovative hardware.
