About Women in Public Life Guernsey
Women in Public Life is a group of local volunteers - women and men. We have come together to inspire and support the women of Guernsey to stand for a range of roles in public office because we believe decisions in Guernsey should be made by a diverse balance of the island as a whole. When women put themselves forward for interview or election, they are just successful as men. Women are under-represented in public office simply because not enough women stand in the first place. Something is stopping them and Guernsey is losing out on talent and experience as a result. We’re working to identify those barriers and to help overcome them. We are not a political party or association – we support all women regardless of their political viewpoint. We don’t endorse or fund any candidate for any role. We simply give women information about the public office opportunities open to Islanders and inspire and support them to consider putting themselves forward. By ‘public office’ we mean roles created by legislation or policy to which members of the public are elected or appointed for a defined period of time. Not just Deputies, Douzeniers and Jurats – also the many committees, panels, commissions and tribunals. Some roles are behind-the-scenes, some are high profile, but all are roles where members of the public represent their community and make decisions on behalf of our Island. Some are paid, some are voluntary and most can be combined with a full-time job. Men are very welcome to access our website, subscribe to our newsletter or join Women in Public Life as a volunteer.
